
Suicide Prevention Queensland to host motivational speaker and mental health advocate, Paul Spinks, in Mackay
Suicide Prevention Queensland will host one of Australia’s leading mental health motivational speakers at a Mackay community event on 12 June 2023.
Former Advanced Australian Care Paramedic, Paul Spinks will deliver ‘The Wake Up Call” at the Mackay Souths Leagues club, a life-changing presentation for those seeking insight into their own wellbeing and practical tips for personal development.
General Manager of Suicide Prevention Queensland, Sandra Moore said they are delighted host the free event that would bring the Mackay community to learn about mental wellbeing and positive living.
“Suicide prevention is everybody’s business, learning the skills to recognise the signs is a simple and effective way to build resilient communities,” Sandra said.
“Paul’s high impact delivery and the important message behind ‘The Wake Up Call’ will provide Mackay locals with the knowledge and skills that can last a lifetime.”
Drawing on his years of experience in trauma counselling, Paul will provide attendees with the necessary tools to strengthen individual and community resilience to respond to those in crisis.
“Suicide rates in Mackay are close to 25% higher than the standardised rate of the entire state.
“At Suicide Prevention Queensland, we provide intervention and training programs that focus on teaching the skills for recognising at-risk individuals and better equipping them to support and respond is vital in reducing suicide deaths and attempts.
“Hosting events like Paul Spinks: The Wake Up Call after a strong response from the Mackay community is just one example of this as we are work toward Queensland communities free of suicide.”
An initiative of selectability, Suicide Prevention Queensland aims to address the unmet need for more services in regional Queensland by raising funds to deliver tailored training and education programs to communities that need it most.
Paul Spinks: The Wake Up Call is a free, catered event and will begin at 6pm on 12 June 2023 at the Souths Leagues Club in Mackay.
